This project was a 2-year project in collaboration with the Institute for Energy Technology in Norway (IFE) started in January 2015 and finished in 2017. The aim of this project was to developed a clean-up system for the separation of heavy metals and radionuclides from contaminated aqueous solutions. The system is based on GO in combination with an inorganic flocculating agent developed in house is easy to separate from solution.

The main results of this project showed that GO is highly effective to remove certain heavy metals present in road run-off water such as copper, zinc, lead, and cadmium. In addition, Go was effective towards radionuclides present in the fuel cycle of the nuclear energy industry, such as americium, cesium, thorium, and radium.

We acknowledge also the Norwegian Public Road Administration for contributing to this project.
