HEROIC is a 2-year project in collaboration with an industrial partner in Montreal, Canada. The project started in 2019 and will be finalized in 2021.
This project aims to develop and commercialize high-performance Graphene Oxide (GO) membranes for use in consumer electronic device speakers. The target markets are personal headphones, speakers for mobile phones and home sound equipment.
Compared to State-of-the-Art (SOA) - Aluminium and Mylar - membranes, the HEROIC GO membrane will have greater sensitivity, extended frequency response, lower distortion, higher decibel rating, and higher thermal conductivity, giving the speaker 50% better frequency response (AES20-s2008), increased battery life (60%-70%) and (25%) improved power handling over SOA.
The role of Abalonyx in this project is to modify and optimize GO and other graphene-based materials for membrane manufacturing.
